Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Anna Filbey has joined Glasgow giants Celtic on a loan deal for the remainder of the season according to reports on the North Londoners’ official club website.

The 21-year-old Welsh international has found regular starts hard to come by at The Hive this season and she will hope to enjoy more game time north of the border with Fran Alonso’s Celtic.

The Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) season is currently suspended until mid-February, however, it is hoped that the competition will resume based on the latest plans. Celtic are due to continue their campaign with a match against Forfar Farmington on Sunday 21 February, although a decision will be made on whether the season resumes closer to that date.

Midfielder Filbey joined Spurs from North London rivals Arsenal in 2018 and she went on to help the club win promotion to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League in 2018/2019. The player featured in 13 of Spurs’ 15 Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixtures last season, however, Filbey has played in just half of her side’s matches this term, although an injury problem hasn’t helped her cause.

Since new head coach Rehanne Skinner arrived at the club, Filbey has featured just once, that appearance came in Spurs’ 3-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion in early December. She was most recently an unused substitute as The Lilywhites lost 4-0 at Chelsea on Sunday.
