Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of versatile Finnish international Emma Koivisto from Swedish champions Goteborg FC.

The 26-year-old, who can operate in a range of defensive and midfield roles, joins The Seagulls after finally gaining international clearance. She has signed an 18-month deal at The People’s Pension Stadium and has been handed the number 12 shirt.

FA Women’s Super League Full-Time were made aware of Koivisto’s move during Albion’s official club press conference this afternoon.

Koivisto is a born winner who has won trophies at two of the three clubs where she has played her senior football to date. The defender won the Finnish title with FC Honka in 2017 while Koivisto was a member of the Goteborg side which won a first Swedish Damallsvenskan title last season.

With Goteborg having participated in this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League, Koivisto has already experienced playing against Barclays FA Women’s Super League opposition with the defender having played the full 180 minutes of her former club’s round of 32 tie against Manchester City in December. The player will potentially face a similar challenge on Sunday when she could make her debut for Brighton & Hove Albion against Barclays FA Women’s Super League champions Chelsea at Kingsmeadow.
