Manchester United full-back Ona Batlle came off the bench to play the last 32 minutes of Spain’s 13-0 UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 victory over Azerbaijan in Baku this afternoon.
The 21-year-old defender came on immediately after Spain’s seventh goal. She helped her side end the match in a professional manner as Spain secured their place at the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 tournament finals as group winners.
Forward Esther Gonzalez scored the game’s first four goals in a little over half an hour to give Jorge Vilda’s side a huge lead before a Jennifer Hermoso double ensured that Spain ended the first 45 minutes with a six-goal advantage.
Mariona Caldentey then hit a seventh goal early in the second half before Manchester United defender Batlle entered the field, collecting her seventh senior international cap in the process.
Hermoso then completed her hat-trick before substitute Batlle set up Eva Navarro for Spain’s ninth goal.
A late flurry of further Spanish goals saw Hermoso hit the back of the net on two more occasions, either side of strikes from Nerea Eizaguirre and Esther, a player who also ended the game with five goals, as Vilda’s side completed a 13-0 rout.
Spain have qualified for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 tournament finals with a game to spare. They take on third-placed nation Poland in their final group match in Madrid on Tuesday.
