Manchester United defender Ona Batlle played the second half for Spain as they defeated Poland 3-0 in Madrid this evening in their final UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifying match.
The 21-year-old came off the bench immediately after the break to replace Marta Corredera and in turn, collect her eighth senior international cap.
Spain went into their final qualifying match already assured of a place at next summer’s UEFA Women’s EURO after they defeated Azerbaijan 13-0 in Baku last week. Despite having nothing but pride to play for, La Roja were thoroughly professional as they took on a Poland side who still held hopes of securing a play-off place.
The hosts took the lead after 24 minutes in Madrid with in-form forward Esther Gonzalez again on target. It was the same player who netted Spain’s second goal with a little over 20 minutes of the match remaining to play before a late goal from Maria Leon rounded off the scoring for Jorge Vilda’s side.
Manchester United defender Ona Battle could play at Old Trafford at the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 tournament finals next year should Spain be drawn to face England in the opening game while her club’s home stadium of The Leigh Sports Village will also host tournament matches.
