Reading midfielder James secures NWSL move

Reading midfielder Angharad James has agreed a move to North Carolina Courage according to reports on the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club’s official website.

The 26-year-old Haverfordwest-born midfielder has spent the last two seasons with The Royals but she will now move to the American NWSL to link-up with North Carolina Courage after agreeing terms with the club earlier today.

The news of James’ departure comes as a real blow for Reading with the player having been an ever-present for the club throughout the 2020/2021 Barclays FA Women’s Super League season. James has been one of the top performers for The Royals in what has been another impressive season for the club.

It has been reported that Reading and North Carolina Courage are yet to agree on a date for James’ move to the United States. She becomes the second Reading player to have a move to the NWSL confirmed in recent days with on-loan midfielder Jess Fishlock having been recalled by parent club OL Reign with effect from 5 April.

With Reading set to lose two influential midfield players in the coming weeks and months in James and Fishlock, manager Kelly Chambers faces the prospect of having to strengthen the midfield area during the summer transfer window. The Reading boss recently completed the signing of Mexican international midfielder Silvana Flores, however, Chambers will be keen to add more experience to the centre of the park

Reading return to Barclays FA Women’s Super League action when they travel to Bristol City on Sunday 7 March.
