Birmingham City and Manchester City will meet on neutral territory in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League this afternoon.
The pair were initially due to play at the SportNation.bet Stadium in Solihull before Christmas but the game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
This afternoon’s rearranged fixture was set to go ahead at the same venue until the League’s Executive Operations Committee (EOC) announced on Friday that the game would be switched to St George’s Park due to ‘Solihull Moors FC not meeting requirements in the Rules and Regulations of the League’.
Birmingham City have been left frustrated and confused by the decision but the good news is that head coach Carla Ward has no new injury concerns to contend with this afternoon and she could have as many as six players in reserve, something which hasn’t been possible for most of the season.
The Blues medical team provided a squad update yesterday, confirming that five players remain sidelined. Attacker Christie Murray is due to return to training next week while Heidi Logan, Veatriki Sarri, Connie Scofield and Lily Simkin are still some way off returning to fitness.
Manchester City remain without Gemma Bonner and Megan Campbell for their trip to Burton upon Trent. Midfielder Keira Walsh is doubtful while the condition of American pair Abby Dahlkemper and Rose Lavelle will be assessed. Sam Mewis could return while no update on the fitness of full-back Demi Stokes has been provided by Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor.
Birmingham City’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Manchester City at St George’s Park is scheduled to kick-off at 2pm this afternoon. Fans should be able to stream the game live on the FA Player.
