Chelsea forward Pernille Harder has joined Merete Pedersen at the top of Denmark’s goalscoring charts with a goal against Wales this evening.
The 28-year-old attacker scored her 65th senior international goal in Cardiff, moving her level with fellow Danish legend Pedersen.
A lively start to the match saw Danish keeper Lene Christensen called into action to claw away a Gemma Evans header before Emma Snerle tested home keeper Laura O’Sullivan at the other end.
Harder’s milestone moment came in the 24th minute when a long ball from Sofie Junge Pedersen provided her with the opportunity to round O’Sullivan and tap home into an unguarded net.
Wales searched for an equaliser with Jess Fishlock, Ceri Holland and Angharad James all going close but Gemma Grainger’s side would go into the break 1-0 down.
The hosts were to level matters in the second half when a Natasha Harding cross found former Reading teammate Fishlock who volleyed the ball into the net.
After their goal had been breached, Denmark went on the attack in search of a second goal but Wales held firm as they recorded a first positive result under new head coach Grainger who will have been delighted with what she witnessed from her side over the course of the 90 minutes.
