Teenage winger Aimee Hodgson has signed her first professional contract with Blackburn Rovers.

The 18-year-old midfielder was promoted to the Rovers senior squad ahead of the 2020/2021 season and she has impressed manager Gemma Donnelly enough to earn herself professional terms which will keep her at The Sir Tom Finney Stadium for another year.

FA Women’s Super League Full-Time were informed of the news via an official Blackburn Rovers press release earlier today.

Hodgson made her Rovers debut on the opening day of the 2020/2021 FA Women’s Championship season as her side lost 3-0 at Leicester City. The youngster has made 14 further league appearances for Rovers, including 10 starts. Hodgson has also appeared for Rovers on three occasions in the domestic cups.

After signing her deal, Hodgson told Rovers’ official media sources “It’s great, obviously just turning 18 and then to get a contract, it feels like the hard work is paying off.

“I wasn’t really expecting it but then to get the call, it just felt incredible.

“You hear about players going through the RTC and then making it to the first team and I’ve always looked up to the first team, so it felt good to be in and around the team and then to seal a contract too.

“I was in the development team, but I didn’t play a single game because I had an injury and then to come into the first team, I think the plan was to go out on loan.

“So then to stay in the first team, it’s been quite hard to adjust but I think I’m finally getting there.”

Hodgson could be in action for Rovers again on Sunday when they make the long trip to The Hive to face London Bees.
