Aston Villa have announced the news that Sporting Director Eni Aluko has left the club.

The 34-year-old joined Villa in January 2020 and she has overseen the club’s promotion to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League along with their 10th-place finish this season.

Villa have had a hectic week on the management front with interim boss Marcus Bignot having left the club, along with head coach Gemma Davies and her assistant Jenny Sugarman.

The club have this evening confirmed that Sporting Director Aluko has now also departed with the former England international set to take up a high profile position in the United States. Aluko’s new role is expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks.

Aluko spent 18 years as a senior player in a career which saw her play in England, America and Italy. It was at Chelsea where the former forward made the biggest impact. Aluko enjoyed two spells with The Blues, winning three league titles and two Women’s FA Cups.

The player also enjoyed a successful international career. Aluko was capped by England on 102 occasions  at senior level in which she scored 33 goals while she also represented Great Britain at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Aston Villa have thanked Aluko for her efforts during her time at the club.
