Forward Melissa Johnson has announced her departure from Sheffield United after spending one season at The Technique Stadium.
The free-scoring forward joined The Blades last summer after leaving Aston Villa and she went on to score six goals for the South Yorkshire club in all competitions.
Johnson’s progress at Sheffield United was largely restricted due to a lack of game time with the player starting just nine of The Blades’ 20 fixtures in the FA Women’s Championship despite starting life at her new club very brightly. At the end of a campaign which has been challenging for Johnson at times, the player took to Twitter to announce her departure.
Goodbye and good luck Sheffield United.
I faced several challenges, a few opportunities and it not going as I would have imagined. I experienced an unfortunate season to say the least but I leave with some positive memories and a bunch of new friends

Johnson has made a successful career out of scoring goals in the second tier. The player hit double figures in terms of goals scored at former clubs Sheffield FC and Aston Villa while she also helped Leicester City bed into the second tier after being awarded a Tier Two licence in 2018.
The forward is a player who many clubs in the FA Women’s Championship would undoubtedly love to have on their books and it seems like only a matter of time before Johnson’s next move is announced.
