Arsenal goalkeeper Lydia Williams has had her contract at Meadow Park extended by a further year according to reports on The Gunners’ official website.
The 33-year-old Australian international stopper joined the North Londoners from W-League club Melbourne City last summer and she has gone on to keep seven clean sheets in nine Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches in an Arsenal shirt.
It has today been confirmed that Williams has had her contract extended until next summer. Arsenal have made the decision to take up a one-year extension option in the player’s deal.
Williams has brought a wealth of experience with her to England. The player is a three-time W-League Goalkeeper of the Year while she has two W-League Premierships and one Championship under her belt. On the international stage, Williams has been capped by The Westfield Matildas on 89 occasions, representing her country at four FIFA Women’s World Cups.
After signing her new deal, Williams said “I’m really happy, I just can’t wait to get back and see the fans now. I’ve seen everything on social media but now I want that fan experience on the pitch and during games because that’s the one thing that I’ve missed the most.”
Williams is currently away on international duty with Australia and could collect further caps against Denmark and Sweden over the course of the next week.
