Manchester United forward Press stars again as the United States defeat Nigeria

Manchester United forward Christen Press has dazzled for the United States yet again with the player picking up a third consecutive Player of the Match award in the Summer Series.

Press scored one and assisted for another as The Stars and Stripes saw off Nigeria in North Austin, Texas this morning. The forward’s performances have now surely sealed her a place in head coach Vlatko Andonovski’s final 18-player squad for next month’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.

After collecting Player of the Match awards against Portugal and Jamaica in the past week, Press gave her chances of a third consecutive individual accolade no harm when she steered in the opening goal against Nigeria this morning. Her strike was the first goal to be scored at the new Q2 Stadium.

Press was again effective at the end of the second half. Her pinpoint through ball allowed teammate Lynn Williams to race away and net the game’s second goal as the United States completed their third victory of the Summer Series.

Head coach Andonovski is now expected to make his decision on the final squad for Tokyo 2020 while the United States will compete in two warm-up games against Mexico next month. Press has surely booked her place on the plane to Japan with a trio of fine displays.
