London City Lionesses centre-back Harley Bennett has signed a new contract with the club ahead of the new season according to reports on The Pride’s official website.
The 30-year-old defender, who can also operate in midfield, has led by example this season, picking up the captain’s armband during the campaign.
Bennett has played every single minute of FA Women’s Championship action for The Pride, scoring in their 2-1 home victory over London Bees and on the final day of the season as London City Lionesses drew 2-2 at Liverpool.
London City Lionesses have been securing the services of their key players in recent weeks with goalkeeper Shae Yanez and midfielders Atlanta Primus and Lily Agg signing on again for next season and it has today been announced that Bennett is also remaining at Princes Park.
The defender will spend her third season with London City Lionesses next term. She joined the club back in summer 2019 following a spell with neighbours Charlton Athletic.
Speaking after signing her new deal, Bennett said “I’m delighted to re-sign for London City Lionesses. Our growth as a club and as players under Mel (Phillips), Cori (Daniels) and all the staff has been massive. I’m very excited to get back with the team and push on from what we built last year.
“We have a great core coming back and I can’t wait to see the new additions we’ve added to strengthen the team. I think the coming season is going be a great one for women’s football and I’m feeling super privileged to be a part of that. I’m just ready to put in the work.”
The 2021/2022 season promises to be a milestone campaign for Bennett with the player likely to represent London City Lionesses for a 50th time early in the season.
