Arsenal have confirmed the news that Dutch international midfielder Danielle van de Donk has joined Lyon.

The 29-year-old has left Meadow Park upon the expiry of her contract and has now agreed to join the former European champions.

Arsenal announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon. Van de Donk joins Dutch international teammate Jill Roord in securing a move away from North London this summer. Roord agreed to join German club VfL Wolfsburg at the end of her Arsenal deal.

Van de Donk joined Arsenal in 2015 from Göteborg FC and the player has gone on to win the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and both domestic cups with The Gunners. She has also represented Arsenal in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Van de Donk made 21 appearances for Arsenal in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League this season, scoring two goals as the club secured a third-place finish and European qualification.

Arsenal are currently operating without a head coach with former boss Joe Montemurro having left the club at the end of his contract last month. The Gunners are working to bring in his replacement with the new season set to kick-off in a little over two months’ time.
