Manchester United forward Tobin Heath has been selected in United States head coach Vlatko Andonovski’s 18-player squad for this summer’s Olympic Games.

The 33-year-old has been battling an ankle injury since January which ruled her out of Manchester United’s remaining fixtures during the second half of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League season.

Heath has faced a race against time to be fit for United States selection for the Olympic Games but she has today been included in the final squad.

Heath is joined in the United States squad by Manchester United teammate Christen Press. The pair are out of contract at The Leigh Sports Village this summer and have been listed as ‘unattached’ players on the US Soccer squad announcement press release, a sign that they will not be returning to England next season.

Manchester City defender Abby Dahlkemper has also made the United States squad selection alongside former club teammates Rose Lavelle and Sam Mewis.

The United States begin their Olympic Games with a group fixture against Sweden in Tokyo on 21 July. The Stars and Stripes will then take on New Zealand in Saitama three days later before ending their group campaign against Australia in Kashima on 27 July.
