Chelsea goalkeeper Emily Orman has signed a two-year professional deal with the club according to reports on The Blues’ official website.

The 18-year-old England youth international has impressed manager Emma Hayes despite being starved of first team playing opportunities as a result of the high quality of goalkeepers on the club’s books.

Orman first edged her way into Hayes’ first team squad during the curtailed 2019/2020 season. She has gone on to be named as an unused substitute on a handful of occasions, gaining vital matchday experience training alongside experienced professionals such as Ann-Katrin Berger and Carly Telford.

Chelsea announced the news that Orman has signed her first professional contract this morning. After signing her deal, the player said “It’s a genuine dream come true and it’s an honour to sign my first professional contract at this club.

“It’s something that me, my family and coaches around me have been working to achieve since I was about six years old. It’s an indescribable feeling but really, the hard work starts now.”

Orman has the huge task of challenging Berger, Telford and Zećira Mušović for the number one jersey at Kingsmeadow. The next step in her development might be to go out on loan and gain some first team playing experience as a first choice goalkeeper.
