Welsh international defender Bethan Roberts has signed her first professional terms with Reading according to reports on The Royals’ official club website.
The 18-year-old has signed a two-year professional deal with the Berkshire club off the back of a breakthrough campaign last season.
Roberts came off the bench to make her senior debut for Reading in their 1-1 draw with Bristol City at The Madejski Stadium in December before chalking up another five Barclays FA Women’s Super League appearances during the remainder of the campaign. The player’s first senior season was capped by Roberts receiving her first senior call-up for the Welsh national team in April.
Roberts is very much a player with a big future in the game and Reading boss Kelly Chambers has therefore moved quickly to agree professional terms with the youngster.
After agreeing terms with the teenager, Chambers said “I am over the moon to offer Bethan her first professional contract; she has definitely earned it.
“Bethan is a player that has been through our pathway from the bottom up, this is exactly what our pathway is about and it’s great to see Bethan follow the footsteps of the likes of Emma Harries and Grace Moloney.
“She is a great young player and last season she developed leaps and bounds. She is a fast, technical player whose attributes fit our style of play. I can’t wait to continue working with Bethan and see her grow even more.”
Roberts will celebrate a decade with Reading next year with the player having been on their books since the age of nine. There is clearly more to come from her as she begins her professional journey with The Royals.
