Former Birmingham City midfielder Chloe McCarron has joined Northern Ireland Women’s Premier League club Glentoran on a free transfer.

The 23-year-old Northern Ireland international has been a free agent since opting to leave Birmingham City by mutual consent at the beginning of April.

National team manager Kenny Shiels had hinted that the player would complete a return to former club Linfield this summer, however, this was not the case with McCarron today being unveiled by Glentoran at The Oval.

McCarron’s move was also announced by Glentoran on the club’s official Twitter account earlier today.

McCarron joined Barclays FA Women’s Super League club Birmingham City last summer but the player struggled for game time with the Blues. The midfielder started just four league matches for the Midlands club and was named amongst the substitutes on no less than 12 occasions.

The player undoubtedly needs to be playing week in, week out, with her nation set to make a debut appearance at next summer’s UEFA Women’s EURO. McCarron has been capped by Northern Ireland on 15 occasions while she has netted one goal. The player will be keen to make national team boss Shiels’ final selection for the tournament.
