Former Charlton Athletic midfielder Alice Griffiths has joined FA Women’s National League South club Bridgwater United according to reports on their official website.
The 20-year-old becomes the Somerset club’s latest high profile signing as they look ahead to the new season.
Griffiths joins Bridgwater United on a free transfer. She was one of 13 players to be released by Charlton Athletic at the end of last season with the club planning for a full-time future in the FA Women’s Championship. The Welsh midfielder made 29 appearances in the second tier in her two years with The Addicks.
After joining Bridgwater United, Griffiths said “I’ve known Jamie (Sherwood) for a number of years now and to play for a manager I know believes in me as part of his vision for the future of the club is really exiting for me.
“I’ve really enjoyed training so far with the group as it’s a great young talented group of players. I’m excited to be here and I’m looking forward for the season to start.”
Bridgwater United were only born in March this year. The formation of the club came when Yeovil United merged with the men’s club in Bridgwater, Bridgwater Town. The club will play their football at Fairfax Park in Bridgwater this season.
