Former Blackburn Rovers full-back Charlotte Newsham has joined Sheffield United.

The 21-year-old defender moves to The Technique Stadium on a free transfer after leaving former club Blackburn Rovers earlier this summer.

Newsham spent one season as a senior player with Blackburn Rovers, making 12 appearances for the club in the FA Women’s Championship. The defender started out with the Lancashire club as a youth before enjoying spells with Manchester City and Manchester United. She rejoined Blackburn Rovers last summer.

Sheffield United today confirmed the capture of Newsham via an official club press release. The Blades have signed the player for the 2021/2022 campaign.

After completing her move to South Yorkshire, Newsham said “It’s great. I spoke to Redders (Neil Redfearn) and he told me all about the club and I just can’t wait to get going to be honest. I’ve been training with the girls for a couple of weeks now and they’ve been really welcoming, I’m just ready to hit the road running this week ahead of our first pre-season friendly.”

Newsham becomes Sheffield United’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window. She joins Sophie Bradley-Auckland, Jess Clarke and Georgia Robert in moving to The Technique Stadium ahead of the new season.
