Manchester United centre-back Abbie McManus has left the club at the end of her contract according to reports on The Red Devils’ official website.

The 28-year-old defender spent two seasons with Manchester United in which she made 16 appearances for the club in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

McManus’ departure from The Leigh Sports Village was always expected with the player having been loaned out to Manchester United’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League rivals Tottenham Hotspur during the second half of last season. The defender made 10 league appearances for Rehanne Skinner’s side as the North Londoners secured their top flight status for another season. McManus is expected to remain in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League following her release by her parent club.

After starting out at Manchester City, McManus dropped down the pyramid to spend a year with Sheffield FC. After impressing with the South Yorkshire club, the defender secured a swift return to the blue side of Manchester in 2014. The player’s second spell with The Cityzens saw McManus represent the club in the top flight on no less than 60 occasions.

With the player wanting more game time, McManus joined latest club Manchester United in summer 2019. The defender was a regular for the club in her first season before finding opportunities more difficult to come by last term.
