Chelsea keeper Berger signs new three-year deal

Chelsea goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger has signed a new three-year contract with the club with the option of a further year according to reports on The Blues’ official website.

The 30-year-old German international stopper joined the South West Londoners from their Barclays FA Women’s Super League rivals Birmingham City in January 2019. The player has excelled since the start, leading the way for Chelsea’s goalkeeping union and playing an instrumental role in the team in the biggest of occasions.

Berger was a double winner with Chelsea last season while she featured for the club in their historic first appearance at a UEFA Women’s Champions League final. With the keeper being at the top of her game, Chelsea have moved to retain her services for the long term.

After signing on again at Kingsmeadow, Berger said “I’m really happy to stay here for longer. The players, the team and the staff, they make me a better player so there’s no reason why I should want to go anywhere else.”

Berger has made 31 appearances for Chelsea in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League during her time at the club. She has kept an impressive 17 clean sheets in those games.

After winning four medals with The Blues to date, Berger will now be full focused on obtaining further honours in 2021/2022.
