Former Arsenal goalkeeper Georgie Ferguson has joined Watford according to reports on The Golden Girls’ official website.

The 18-year-old has previously represented The Gunners at academy level in the WSL Academy League but she will now be looking to start her senior footballing journey after joining newly-promoted FA Women’s Championship club Watford.

While at Arsenal, Ferguson played alongside a number of talented young players who have already featured in FA Women’s Championship squads including Shauna Vassell, Amelia Hazard, Lexi Lloyd-Smith, Paige Bailey-Gayle and Lachante Paul. Ferguson will now be looking to follow in the footsteps of her former teammates this season.

After completing her move to Watford, Ferguson said “I spoke to Clint at the end of the season, coming up from academy (football). I saw Watford getting promoted and thought it would be a very good move for me to progress my career.

“You can see they’re an up and coming team, they obviously hope to progress this season and do well in the Championship. The aim is high, the spirits at the club are really good. Obviously a top of the table finish would be nice but just progressing for the season (is the target).

“My mum’s side are massive Watford fans and all have season tickets so the club isn’t new to me. It’s always been within my family and it’s good to actually be able to come here.”

Ferguson becomes Watford manager Clinton Lancaster’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window.
