Manchester United have been held to a 2-2 draw by Liverpool in an entertaining pre-season friendly at Carrington this afternoon.

New boss Marc Skinner took charge of The Red Devils for the first time since his appointment last month and he looked set to record a victory before his side were pegged back by a late Liverpool equaliser.

Liverpool took a surprise early lead through summer signing Leanne Kiernan. The Republic of Ireland international has now netted two goals in as many pre-season games for The Reds.

Manchester United were not knocked by the early goal and they soon battled back when Kirsty Hanson’s low ball across the box was converted by Leah Galton.

Skinner’s side quickly completed the turnaround when Hanson got her name on the scoresheet from a similar distance.

The second half looked set to be goalless with United holding onto their 2-1 lead, that was until Liverpool levelled matters late on through Carla Humphrey, a player who worked with Manager Matt Beard at Bristol City in his previous job last season.

Despite the two sides not being separated, it was a good run out for both teams who are still very much in the early stages of their onfield preparations for the new season.
