Manchester City have today confirmed the news that defender Lucy Bronze has recently had surgery on a knee injury.
The 29-year-old FIFA Best Women’s Player of the Year is thought to have been struggling with the injury for a while and the surgery was planned to happen during the close season.
Manchester City confirmed Bronze’s surgery via an update on their official website and the player now seems set to miss the start of the new season as she begins her rehabilitation. The full-back is not expected to be out of action for very long with Manchester City hinting that Bronze will soon return to training.
Bronze returned to Manchester City last summer following a three-year spell with former European champions Lyon. The player made 18 appearances for The Cityzens in last season’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League as the club ran Chelsea close for the title.
Manchester City are set for a hectic start to the season with three Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixtures, a Vitality Women’s FA Cup quarter-final and a two-legged UEFA Women’s Champions League Round 2 tie before the end of September and Bronze will be hoping to be back in the thick of the action as soon as possible.
The Cityzens begin the new season at Everton on Saturday 4 September.
