Durham have added Julie Twaddle, Martin Herdman and Stephen Brass to their coaching staff.

The trio’s arrivals were announced via an official club press release earlier today. They have all joined Durham on a full-time capacity and will work alongside the current coaching structure.

Tweddle comes in as Durham’s Head of Performance. She has previously worked with both Sunderland and Manchester City, as well as the England women’s rugby union team.

Herdman returns to Durham after previously coaching with the club. He has most recently been working in Canada at the Vancouver Whitecaps. Herdman has taken up a role of Lead First Team Coach at Maiden Castle.

Finally, the club have appointed Brass as their new goalkeeping coach. He holds a UEFA B coaching licence and has worked at Sunderland’s Foundation of Light.

After adding to Durham’s coaching team, manager Lee Sanders said “It was always the intention to move to a full-time staffing model this season – and we’ve begun that process with the introductions of Julie, Martin and Stephen as well as Mark Donnelly in marketing and media.

“It’s quite exciting for myself on a personal level having those full-time staff and it gives us more time to prepare for the players coming in and more time to focus on looking at the opposition, ourselves and what we need to improve on.

“These appointments take the club to the next level, we already have some fantastic staff here – Simon and Tom from a coaching and performance aspect and Nat and Dougal from the medical side of things.

“Adding three new, full-time coaching staff will compliment the fantastic work that they produce each season.”

Durham finished the 2020/2021 FA Women’s Championship campaign as runners-up and they have long term ambitions of playing in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
