Lewes have completed the signing of experienced FA Women’s Championship goalkeeper Shanell Salgado according to reports on The Rookettes’ official club website.

The 27-year-old German stopper moves to The Dripping Pan on a free transfer after leaving former club Charlton Athletic at the end of last season.

Salgado spent two years at The Oakwood but she missed last season after sustaining an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.

After completing her move to Lewes  Salgado said “I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to join Lewes. It’s a wonderful club to be part of and everyone’s work ethic is amazing.”

While Salgado’s time at Charlton Athletic was frustrating, the player did have a more successful spell with Crystal Palace. The player made nine FA Women’s Championship appearances for The Eagles in the 2018/2019 season, earning herself some fantastic praise in the process.

Salgado’s challenge this season is to battle Tatiana Saunders for the first choice goalkeeping jersey at Lewes. The former England youth goalkeeper enjoyed an excellent first season with The Rookettes last term, her form being one of several factors behind Lewes recording their best-ever finish in the FA Women’s Championship.

Lewes were due to kick-off their season at home to Charlton Athletic on Sunday but that game has been postponed due to COVID-19.
