Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper Marie Hourihane has re-joined Birmingham City on a one-year deal according to reports on the Blues’ official website.

The 33-year-old Harrow-born stopper spent three years with Birmingham City in her initial spell with the club between 2010 and 2013.

In her first spell with the Blues, Hourihane won the Women’s FA Cup. She was an unused substitute in the final as Birmingham City defeated Chelsea 3-2 on penalties at Ashton Gate in 2012.

The keeper returns to the Midlands after most recently turning out for Portuguese top flight club Braga where she won one domestic cup.

After completing her Birmingham City return, Hourihane said “It is great to be back at a Club where I had so much success in the past and one that holds so many happy memories for me.

“Once I knew of the interest from here, it was an easy decision. I cannot wait to see the fans again and it will be extra special representing Birmingham at St. Andrew’s.

“I have learnt a lot in my time away and have developed so much as a goalkeeper. I hope to bring all of this with me to Blues and look forward to working with Emily (Ramsey).”

Hourihane is the second Republic of Ireland international to join Birmingham City in a matter of hours with midfielder Jamie Finn having also been unveiled by the Blues yesterday.
