London City Lionesses attacker Rianna Jarrett says that she is looking forward to going up against fellow Republic of Ireland teammate Niamh Fahey when her side travel to Liverpool this afternoon.

Fahey is one of the Republic of Ireland’s most experienced players and she will be using her know-how in an attempt to get Liverpool’s promotion bid off to a flyer against London City Lionesses at Prenton Park.

Jarrett’s London City Lionesses side are also targeting promotion this season and she says that she will enjoy the challenge of coming up against Fahey.

“Niamh Fahey has obviously been at Liverpool for a while now. I come up against her day in, day out when I’m training with the Irish team in camp;” Jarrett said when speaking in a London City Lionesses press conference in which FAWSL Full-Time were present. “I do enjoy a little battle with her with her being a centre-back and me being a centre forward.

“She knows how I play, I know how she plays but club football and international football are completely different. There are different playing styles, different managers want different outcomes from different players in different positions.

“As I say, the two of us enjoy our battles and that will be no different this weekend, I’ll be looking to get the edge in that area.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the Irish girls afterwards to get talking to them but more importantly, I’m just looking forward to the first game kicking-off and hopefully putting that first foot forward and lets see where we go from there.”

With London City Lionesses having had significant financial backing to bring Jarrett and other former Barclays FA Women’s Super League players to the club this summer, there is an expectancy on them to do well. The striker went on to say that her side hold the same belief and are determined to progress.

She added “The players and the staff have great belief. Everybody says that they want to win the league and get promoted but we genuinely believe that it is something that we can achieve.

“The most important game is the next game and that’s our game against Liverpool.”

London City Lionesses’ opening FA Women’s Championship fixture at Liverpool kicks-off at 2pm this afternoon.
