London City Lionesses goalkeeper Shae Yanez says that the club will continuously aim to improve as they look to mount a serious promotion challenge in the FA Women’s Championship this season.

The Pride opened the new season with an impressive 1-0 win over promotion rivals Liverpool last weekend.

Goalkeeper Yanez recorded her first clean sheet of the campaign against The Reds. The player will be hoping to beat her shutout tally of seven from last season, however, she says that a collective effort to continue to improve as a team is the most important target.

“It’s always nice to get a clean sheet, I hate getting scored on;” Yanez told FAWSL Full-Time in London City Lionesses’ weekly press call. “We just keep improving, we take what we learnt from Liverpool and get better on that.

“It’s just improving on what we did last year and aiming to get better and better every game and learning about how we can maximise our performance defensively and offensively and score goals.”

Looking back on the narrow victory on Merseyside, Yanez was delighted to see the team carry out their roles effectively and she is looking forward to the next match against Crystal Palace this weekend.

The keeper added “I think that everyone knew their role and did their jobs well. We didn’t really let them have any shots or have many sights of goal so the defence did their job.

“Crystal Palace have a very different style of play so it is just kind of adapting to that and doing what we know we need to do.”

London City Lionesses’ first home fixture of the season against Crystal Palace kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday. Fans can purchase tickets for the match in advance by clicking here.
