Aston Villa have completed the signing of veteran midfielder Gemma Davison on a free transfer according to reports on the club’s official website.
The 34-year-old had been recently training with The Villans and the club have today agreed a short term deal with the player. Davison had been without a club since being released by former club Tottenham Hotspur at the end of last season.
Davison’s senior career started with Arsenal in 2005 and the midfielder has largely split her time playing between England and the United States. She enjoyed four spells with The Gunners early in her career while she has also turned out for Liverpool, Chelsea and Reading in the English game, prior to her time with latest club Spurs.
On the international stage, Davison has been capped by England on 16 occasions while she has netted two goals for her country.
After completing the signing of Davison, Aston Villa head coach Carla Ward said “Gemma adds valuable experience to our group. Her desire to improve herself and those around her is first class.
“The quality she possesses makes you sit back and applaud at times – she has so much quality.
“We’re delighted she’s now part of this squad.”
Davison could make her Aston Villa debut against Leicester City at The Banks’s Stadium tomorrow.
