Aston Villa midfielder Emily Syme has joined FA Women’s Championship club Sheffield United on a season-long loan deal.

The 21-year-old, who operates in an attacking role, made 15 appearances for Aston Villa in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League last season, however, she was named amongst the substitutes on 21 occasions.

With Syme in need of game time, it has today been confirmed that the player has joined second tier side Sheffield United for the entire 2021/2022 season. The Blades announced the news via an official club press release.

Speaking after joining the club, Syme said “I’m very excited. I’ve had a bit of a tour, it all looks very good, I’m very excited to be here and I can’t wait to get started.

“I think it’s a very ambitious club, it wants to compete in the league and competition is what will make everyone around here better.”

Syme has spent the last two seasons with Aston Villa and she helped the club to the FA Women’s Championship title in 2019/2020 on a points per game basis. The midfielder also counts Bristol City and Yeovil Town as her former clubs.

Sheffield United head coach Neil Redfearn could offer Syme her debut against Durham on Sunday.
