Birmingham City have completed the double signing of Irish pair Eleanor Ryan-Doyle and Emily Whelan according to reports on the Blues’ official website.

Both players move to St Andrew’s on free transfers after leaving Women’s National League clubs Peamount United and Shelbourne. They have signed one-year deals with the Blues.

Striker Ryan-Doyle has spent virtually all of her senior playing career to date with Peamount United. The 23-year-old has represented The Peas in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Ryan-Doyle has been called up by the Republic of Ireland on a couple of occasions but is still waiting for her senior debut.

Whelan has been playing for the senior side at Shelbourne for three years. She made her debut for the club at the age of just 16. Like Ryan-Doyle, Whelan is also an attacking player and she has been capped by the Republic of Ireland on five occasions at senior level. Whelan was formerly a keen Gaelic football player.

Ryan-Doyle and Whelan now take the total number of Republic of Ireland international players at Birmingham City to six. Defender Harriet Scott signed a new contract with the club this summer while the Blues have also added Marie Hourihan, Louise Quinn and Jamie Finn.

Birmingham City start the season at Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow afternoon.
