Newly-promoted Sunderland will look to build on a winning start when they welcome Blackburn Rovers to The Stadium of Light on Sunday.

The Lady Black Cats had a perfect opening day as they beat last season’s strugglers Coventry United 1-0 at the Butts Park Arena last time out with 18-year-old England youth international Jessica Brown scoring the only goal.

This weekend’s fixture is Sunderland’s first in elite football on home soil for more than three years. Fans should get the chance to see new signings Charlotte Potts and Emma Kelly in action, both impressed on their debuts at Coventry United last weekend. Maltese international midfielder Maria Farrugia also impressed at the Butts Park Arena, resulting in the player being voted the FA Women’s Championship’s Player of the Week with a resounding 63.7% of the votes.

Despite the fact that only one round of games have been played, Blackburn Rovers top the table as a result of their 2-0 opening day victory over Sheffield United, a game which saw ex-Blade Chloe Dixon and Aimee Hodgson amongst the goals. Rovers will be aiming to improve on their ninth-place finish from last season after making a number of positive additions over the summer.

The FA Women’s Championship fixture between Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday. Tickets remain on sale priced at £5 adults and £2.50 over 65s and under-16s. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here. Highlights of the match will also be made available on the FA Player website.
