Seven players from Chelsea, Everton and Manchester City have received call-ups to the Swedish national team for their FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia New Zealand 2023 qualifying matches later this month.

Peter Gerhardsson’s side face Slovakia in Senec on Friday 17 September before hosting Georgia in Gothenburg on Tuesday 21 September.

The Swedish Football Association, the SvFF, announced head coach Gerhardsson’s 25-player squad earlier today with seven players being selected from clubs playing in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. Chelsea’s Zećira Mušović, Jonna Andersson and Magda Eriksson have all been selected, as have new Everton trio Nathalie Björn, Hanna Bennison and Anna Anvegård. There is also a place in the squad for new Manchester City signing Filippa Angeldahl.

Sweden return to action later this month following their recent adventure at the Olympic Games in Japan. Gerhardsson’s side went all the way to the final of the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament before being beaten to the Gold Medal by Canada on penalty kicks.

The Swedes have featured in all eight FIFA Women’s World Cups but are yet to win the tournament. They were runners-up back in 2003 while they have finished in third place in three tournaments including in France in 2019. Sweden have been placed in a tricky qualification group this time around with Finland and the Republic of Ireland offering competition alongside Slovakia and Georgia.
