Birmingham City head coach Scott Booth says that his side must fight for points this season with the team still in transition following a wave of new arrivals in the summer.

The Blues added 13 new players in the summer transfer window but positive results are yet to be produced with Birmingham City having been defeated by both Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion in their opening two Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches.

Booth takes his side to Walton Hall Park this weekend to face another team who have recorded back-to-back defeats in the form of big-spending Everton. When speaking in his pre-match press conference in which FAWSL Full-Time were present, Booth said that his side must fight for points and they cannot afford to wait to gel.

“We know the situation that we are in as a group and as a club,” Booth said. “I think with that being said, we still have to go into these games and bring points in, we need to fight for everything.

“We know that the mentality is not about winning every game but it is about getting everything that we can out of every game.”

While Birmingham City slumped to a 5-0 home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion last time out, the Blues did register 14 shots on goal. Ahead of this weekend’s trip to Everton, Booth said that hard work is being done on the training pitch to sharpen the club’s attack.

He added “I think that we have shown that we can create chances and be dangerous. I think that we have been a little bit naive at times in certain situations when we have been in the final third and we have also not quite shown the quality that we have got.

“A lot of the players are new to the WSL and they are still getting to grips with things like how much time they have on the ball, making good decisions with fewer seconds than they have had in the past but the quality is definitely there. It is just about putting that into practice on gameday when the pressure is on.

“We are working on putting the players into those situations the best that we can in training to ensure that when they get the opportunities in the games, they take them.”

The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Everton and Birmingham City is scheduled to kick-off at 11.30am on Saturday morning and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Premier League.
