Manchester United are bidding to make it three wins out of three in this season’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League when Chelsea arrive at the Leigh Sports Village this afternoon.
Marc Skinner’s side have already beaten Reading and Leicester City this season and the focus now shifts to reigning Barclays FA Women’s Super League champions Chelsea.
Ahead of kick-off, FAWSL Full-Time have taken a look at the statistics surrounding the game, provided to us by Opta. Here are four facts which relate to this afternoon’s meeting between Manchester United and Chelsea.
Manchester United still waiting for maiden victory over Chelsea
Chelsea are one of two opponents who Manchester United have never beaten in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. The pair have met on three occasions with Chelsea winning two and the other game ending in a draw. Last season saw the two sides play out a 1-1 draw at the Leigh Sports Village before Chelsea were 2-1 winners at Kingsmeadow.
Chelsea have never beaten Manchester opposition away from home
There are two sides which Chelsea have never defeated away from home in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, Manchester United and Manchester City. The Blues have made nine trips to the North West to face the Manchester pair and they have recorded six draws and three defeats. It should be noted that they have travelled to Manchester United just once.
Will The Red Devils end Chelsea’s scoring run?
Chelsea arrive in the North West having scored in all of their last 53 games in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. Manchester United are, however, enjoying their longest winning sequence at home in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League of five matches. It has also been 648 minutes since The Red Devils last conceded a goal at home from open play.
Will Manchester United’s Toone haunt admiring Chelsea boss Hayes
Whilst providing commentary during the England game in Luxembourg in midweek, Chelsea manager Emma Hayes was raving about the performance of Manchester United’s Ella Toone. The attacker can make a further impression upon Hayes this afternoon for very different reasons. Toone has been involved in seven of Manchester United’s last eight goals on home soil, scoring three and assisting four. Hayes will surely make her side well-aware of the player’s threat.
The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Manchester United and Chelsea kicks-off at 12.30pm this afternoon and will be broadcast live on BBC Two.
