Everton attacker Sørensen suffers ACL blow

Everton attacker Nicoline Sørensen has confirmed that she suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury in the club’s 3-1 victory over Birmingham City at Walton Hall Park on Saturday.

The Blue Girls celebrated collecting their first three points of the season on Merseyside but the occasion ended on a sour note for Danish international Sørensen who damaged her ACL just 15 minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Sørensen took to her personal social media accounts this evening to confirm the news of her injury blow.

Sørensen enjoyed a solid pre-season with Everton before featuring in the club’s opening three matches in this season’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League. The player is now in her second season with The Blue Girls after joining the club in summer 2020 following a spell with Brøndby. She featured in every league fixture in her first year at Walton Hall Park.

The attacker’s injury comes as a real blow with Everton looking to string together a positive sequence of results following a challenging start to the season. The recovery time for an ACL is usually at least nine months meaning that Sørensen may not be seen in an Everton shirt again this season.

On the international stage, Sørensen could face a battle to recover in time to feature for Denmark at next summer’s UEFA Women’s EURO which begins on 6 July 2022.
