Birmingham City head coach Scott Booth says that his side must look to take any opportunities which come their way against Manchester United at St Andrew’s this evening.

The Blues are yet to take any points from their matches in this season’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League while they have scored just the one goal in three matches.

Speaking via Birmingham City’s official media sources ahead of this evening’s fixture, Booth said that his side will get chances against Manchester United, it is just about taking them.

“The players want to compete in every game,” Booth said. “There is nothing said before the game to suggest that you cannot take points or cause problems for the opposition no matter who they are.

“It’s 90 minutes, 11 v 11, you always get opportunities in games, it is about taking them. It is not always about possession, it’s about having the quality to take those chances when they come and because that is the case in football, you always have a chance.”

Booth arrived at Birmingham City in the summer with just a handful of players contracted to the club. The Scot has brought in several new faces and he is expecting the team to take time to gel, although continuous progress in an important factor.

He said “The games are coming thick and fast and the level of competition is high. The most important thing for me is that we are seeing progress and as we have been going, I have seen that.

“You can tell that the players are starting to bed in more now, starting to get to grips with the way that we play and the level of the competition that we are playing against.

“As long as I keep seeing progress, I have got to be happy with that because we are still in the very early stages of our project.”

The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Birmingham City and Manchester United is scheduled to kick-off at 6.45pm this evening and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football.
