Chelsea have collected another three points in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League but they were made to work really hard for their victory by a stubborn and well-drilled Leicester City side.

Pernille Harder and Fran Kirby scored in the last eight minutes of the game for The Blues as they recorded a 2-0 victory at Kingsmeadow.

Niamh Charles went close early on for the hosts before defender Aniek Nouwen saw an effort saved by Leicester City goalkeeper Kirstie Levell. Millie Bright then thumped a shot just wide from the edge of the box as the first half ended goalless.

Sam Kerr and Harder were thrown on at the start of the second half as Chelsea manager Emma Hayes looked to increase her side’s attacking threat. It was Kerr who went close on the hour after meeting a Fran Kirby cross with her head but Levell was equal to the shot.

Chelsea finally made the breakthrough eight minutes from time with Harder sliding the ball home from a Jessie Fleming delivery before Kirby’s strike sealed the 2-0 victory deep in second half stoppage time.

Chelsea have now won four of their five Barclays FA Women’s Super League games this season while the wait for a first top flight point goes on for Leicester City.
