Brighton & Hove Albion manager Hope Powell is expecting a really tough match when Tottenham Hotspur are the visitors to The People’s Pension Stadium this afternoon.

Spurs are absolutely flying in this season’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League after recording four wins out of four. Meanwhile, Brighton & Hove Albion go into the match having lost their last two league fixtures, although they did win their last home match against Charlton Athletic in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.

When speaking in her pre-match press conference, Brighton & Hove Albion boss Hope Powell said that she is expecting Spurs to provide her side with a real test given their recent form.

“They’ve had a great start, we know it is going to be a very tough game,” Powell said. “They are on an absolute high and their standing in the league shows how well they’ve done. We will have to be at our very best again to give ourselves the best chance.

“They’ve made some really good signings and Rehanne (Skinner) has brought in additional staff and it has clicked for her. The team are playing with some confidence, when you win, you play with a lot of confidence and they’ve taken that into every game.”

Despite losing their last two league games, Brighton & Hove Albion have generally played good football this season. The Seagulls lost 3-1 at Chelsea last time out but they put in a really solid second half performance and could go into this afternoon’s match with some momentum.

Speaking about recent results, Powell said “We are making positive change. As a group of players, we are always looking to improve and I think that we are improving. Some of the recent results have shown that, some of the recent performances have shown that, I thought we did exceptionally well in the second half against a Chelsea team that was full of international players. We really showed resilience, we showed pride in our badge and fought until the very, very end.

“I see that the performances are improving, the players are more robust physically and in better condition so we are always striving to push on. I see the progress, the players themselves see the progress, the club see the progress, we just have to make sure that is consistent during the course of the season.”

The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur at The People’s Pension Stadium kicks-off at 2pm.
