Tottenham Hotspur head coach Rehanne Skinner says that her side will give Charlton Athletic the same level of respect as they give their Barclays FA Women’s Super League opponents when the pair meet at The Hive on Wednesday in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup.

The Addicks turned full-time over the summer and have recorded four wins from their opening five games in the FA Women’s Championship. Karen Hills’ side are Spurs’ first opponents in this season’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup group stage and they are expected to make things difficult for The Lilywhites.

When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time ahead of the match, Spurs boss Skinner said that her side would be preparing for Charlton Athletic the same way that they would for a Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture.

“We have to approach every competition with the aim to get as far as we possibly can,” Skinner said. “We want to win games and keep that momentum going and more importantly, we want to keep our performances at the right level going into every game.

“For us, we will be approaching the game with the same level of respect as we show FAWSL teams because we want to do as well as we possibly can. It is important that we approach every game with the same diligence and professionalism that we do week in, week out, so we ensure that we do progress in these competitions.”

Charlton Athletic head coach Hills returns to Spurs for the first time since her dismissal 11 months ago. Current Spurs boss Skinner went on to say that Hills left the club in a great place for her to pick up and progress to the next level.

She said “We are pretty good at making sure that we appreciate and recognise the history and the work that the people have put in before us. I do genuinely believe in leaving it (the club) in a better place than you found it, that’s through someone’s work in advance of you walking through the door, including players who have been at this club over the years.

“Obviously, Karen and Juan (Amoros) have done a fantastic job of driving it to the next point and I have just tried to do the same thing and keep moving it forward and the person after me will hopefully do the same thing. It is just part of the evolving journey of any professional team really.

“It’ll be good to see Karen again, she’s doing very well with Charlton and it’ll be a good game for us to be involved in.”
