FA Women’s Championship club Lewes have appointed Craig Gill as their interim first team manager according to reports on the club’s official website.

Gill fills the club’s managerial vacancy on a temporary basis following the departure of manager Simon Parker yesterday.

Parker spent the best part of two years in charge of The Rookettes, guiding the club to a best-ever finish of fifth position in the FA Women’s Championship last season. He also helped the club to take seven points from an available 15 so far this season.

Lewes have announced their intention to appoint a permanent replacement for Parker in the coming weeks and the club have today appointed Gill to work with them on an interim consultancy basis whilst their recruitment process is both initiated and concluded. The Sussex club are understood to be set to take their time in recruiting Parker’s permanent successor.

After completing his move to The Dripping Pan, Gill said “I’m extremely pleased to be joining such a forward-thinking and unique football club at Lewes. I’m very grateful for the opportunity given to me by the Board and very much look forward to working with them, the players, staff and Maggie (Murphy).”

Gill is an experienced coach, coach educator, player developer and physical trainer and he holds a UEFA A Licence and MSc in sports coaching. His previous roles in football include working as a coach educator and elite player development coach for the Football Association of Wales (FAW) Trust, holding a position as an elite coach educator and national youth coach with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, working as an assistant first team coach at Newport County AFC and operating as a reserve team and academy coach at Swansea City.

Gill will oversee Lewes for the first time when they face Charlton Athletic on Sunday.
