Arsenal forward Caitlin Foord says that she is looking forward to witnessing a ‘big buzz’ from the home crowd when Australia take on Brazil on Saturday.
Foord is a member of an Australian side who are set to play a fixture on home soil for the first time in almost 600 days when they face Brazil at the CommBank Stadium in Parramatta on Saturday morning.
When speaking to Football Australia Media sources ahead of the game, Foord said that she is looking forward to playing in front of a home crowd that will really get behind the team.
“It is huge to play here in front of home fans,” Foord said. “They are the games that you look forward to, having friends and family and just a home crowd, it’s a nice feeling and it has been a very long time.
“I think it’s a little more exciting this time than others to have everyone back and I think it will be just as exciting for fans as well. There is going to be a big buzz around the game.”
Foord was on target in Australia’s last meeting with Brazil at the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019, a game that the Matildas won 3-2. The player is hoping for more success against the nation this weekend.
She added “Brazil is always a very tough game for us, it is always a big game at a knockout stage of a tournament or something.
“We have a lot of history with Brazil so to get one over them on home soil would be nice.”
Australia’s international friendly against Brazil kicks-off at 9.50am on Saturday morning. The Commonwealth Bank Matildas will also play the same opponents in a second game on Tuesday morning.
