The Football Association have today announced initial details for Women’s Football Weekend ’21 which is set to take place over the weekend of 14-15 November 2021.
The event provides fans of the women’s game with a festival of football whilst opening the game up to new audiences looking for their football fix during the men’s international break.
This year’s Women’s Football Weekend sees fans return to grounds after last year’s event was hosted behind-closed-doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Every Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture will also be broadcast live either on Sky Sports, the BBC or via the FA Player. It has also been revealed that all six FA Women’s Championship fixtures will also be made available for live streaming on the FA Player.
Speaking following today’s announcement, Kelly Simmons, The FA’s Director of the Women’s Professional Game said “Women’s Football Weekend is such a significant event within our season because it’s an opportunity to really showcase the very best of our sport.
“With some of the best players in the world showcasing their talents in some of the biggest matches of the season, this is a real opportunity for fans to be part of a big weekend of action.
“But this isn’t just about the top of the pyramid. Women’s Football Weekend is for everyone and I hope those at grassroots level also see new fans coming to their matches and really embrace the spirit of what the weekend is all about – our mutual love of the game.”
Some of the Women’s Football Weekend ’21 highlights include a North London derby as Tottenham Hotspur host Arsenal at The Hive while Birmingham City take on Aston Villa and Chelsea travel to Manchester City. In the FA Women’s Championship, high-flyers Durham and Liverpool go head-to-head while London City Lionesses host Sheffield United. There is also the prospect of 56 Vitality Women’s FA Cup first round ties to be played.
