Jean-Luc Vasseur will take charge of Everton for the very first time when they face Leicester City in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup at The Pirelli Stadium on Wednesday.

The Frenchman was appointed as the new boss of The Blue Girls on Friday, filling the void left by former manager Willie Kirk’s recent departure.

Wednesday night’s fixture is the first FA Women’s Continental League Cup game of the season for Leicester City and is also their first match at their secondary home of The Pirelli Stadium in Burton upon Trent. Jonathan Morgan’s side had a week off when the competition got underway last month with an odd number of teams being in their group.

With Barclays FA Women’s Super League survival being the main aim, Morgan could rotate his side with the likes of Demi Lambourne, Esmee de Graaf, Sophie Howard and Paige Bailey-Gayle hoping for recalls. The Foxes are expected to be without a number of players with Lachante Paul, Sophie Barker, Abbi Grant and Connie Scofield thought to still be sidelined.

It is difficult to determine how Vasseur’s Everton will line-up. The former Lyon boss could use the game to determine his best XI or he may opt to play a weaker side with turning the club’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League form around being higher on the agenda.

Danish forward Nicoline Sørensen has been ruled out for the season but there is better news regarding Simone Magill who made her long-awaited return from injury during the international window. Defender Nathalie Björn and forward Claire Emslie could also return to the Everton squad following their recent absences.

The FA Women’s Continental League Cup group fixture between Leicester City and Everton kicks-off at 7pm on Wednesday evening. Tickets are priced at £7 adults, £3.50 over-65s and £3 under-18s while under-8s go free.
