Leicester City forward Hannah Cain will miss the remainder of the season after rupturing her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL).

The 22-year-old missed a large chunk of last season with a long term injury and Cain is now set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Leicester City have reported that Cain sustained her latest injury in a behind-closed-doors friendly game last week. The forward had started four Barclays FA Women’s Super League games for the newly-promoted Foxes prior to her injury blow.

Cain joined Leicester City in summer 2020 after leaving Everton. The player’s bad luck with injuries resulted in her having to wait until December to make her debut, coming off the bench to feature in a 3-2 FA Women’s Championship victory over Blackburn Rovers at The Sir Tom Finney Stadium.

The forward netted three goals in nine league outings for Leicester City as they secured their promotion to the top flight. Cain scored twice at The King Power Stadium on the final day of the season as The Foxes were presented with the FA Women’s Championship trophy.

Leicester City play their first Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture without Cain on Sunday when Manchester City are the visitors to The King Power Stadium.
