Chelsea will be hoping to continue to apply pressure on Barclays FA Women’s Super League leaders Arsenal when they travel to The Banks’s Stadium to face Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Blues currently occupy second place, three points adrift of The Gunners. Meanwhile, this weekend’s opponents are in seventh following a solid start to the new campaign.

Ahead of the match, FAWSL Full-Time have been looking at the statistics surrounding the fixture provided by Opta. Here are four facts which relate to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League meeting between Aston Villa and Chelsea.

Chelsea have a great record against Aston Villa

Chelsea have won each of the last five matches between the two sides in all competitions, a run that started in the Women’s FA Cup in 2010. The South West Londoners won both meetings with Aston Villa last season, recording a 4-0 victory away and a 2-0 success at Kingsmeadow. Emma Hayes’ side are naturally the red-hot favourites again this weekend.

Aston Villa’s record against London clubs is one to be improved

Aston Villa have won just one of their 10 Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches against London-based clubs (D4 L5), beating Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at home back in February. The Villans have conceded 18 goals in those games and have scored just three, however, it should be noted that Aston Villa do have a 40% clean sheet rate against London-based opponents.

Remi Allen likes playing against Chelsea

Aston Villa midfielder Remi Allen has a decent goal creation record against Chelsea. The player has more Barclays FA Women’s Super League assists against The Blues (three) than she has against any other side. The one negative is that Allen’s most recent assist came in October 2016 with former club Reading.

Aston Villa face the near-impossible task of shutting Chelsea out

Chelsea have scored in each of their last 56 Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches, the longest run of scoring by any team in the competition’s history. A side from the Second City were the last team to keep a clean sheet against The Blues, that was Birmingham City in October 2018.

The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Aston Villa and Chelsea kicks-off at 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon. Admission will be available for fans who wish to pay on the day.
