Manchester United boss Marc Skinner says that his side will look to put their stamp on the game when they contest a fascinating encounter against Tottenham Hotspur at The Hive this afternoon.
The fixture is arguably the ‘Game of the Weekend’ in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League with the winners set to end the day in the final UEFA Women’s Champions League qualification spot in the league table.
When speaking in his pre-match press conference, Manchester United boss Skinner highlighted the great progress made by opponents Tottenham Hotspur this season but said that his side will look to put their own stamp on the game.
“They’ve done really well Tottenham,” Skinner said. “When I have watched their games, they look really organised, very structured.
“I worked with Rehanne (Skinner) when I was at Leicester as her assistant for a season, pre-professional football, so I’ve seen the good work that she does.
“They’ve got a good togetherness, a good group of players and have some really top talent in there as well. It is going to be difficult but we want to get ahead and try to put a stamp on the game.”
With a new head coach coming in over the summer along with a number of new players, it has been a period of transition for Manchester United but Skinner admits that he is happy with how the season has gone so far.
He said “It has been great barring a couple of results, although the performances were ok.
“What is really good for a coach is that you come in and you see people trying to take your ideas on. I suppose that as a coach, you try to be a conductor and try to make sure that each person can deliver a tune that everybody else wants to listen to. That’s what I am seeing the players work towards.
“I reach about 100 days in charge next week and it feels like a whirlwind but I am really pleased with the attitude of the players, where we have come. Some of the football is excellent, some of it is of course a little bit disconnected because we are not quite on the same page.
“We are in a good kind of place for us to be.”
