Coventry United and Bristol City will be keen to claim an important three points in the FA Women’s Championship when they meet at the Butts Park Arena this evening.
‘Monday Night Football’ makes a first appearance at the Warwickshire club this season and there could hardly be a bigger occasion with Coventry United needing points to climb off the bottom of the table and opponents Bristol City having a great opportunity to pull themselves into the promotion race.
Despite investing in a strong playing squad in the summer, Coventry United are yet to deliver success in the FA Women’s Championship. Jay Bradford’s side have just one point on the board and slipped to the bottom of the table yesterday with Watford winning 2-1 at Lewes. It could be argued that The Red and Greens aren’t too far away from positive results with the club’s last two defeats being by the odd goal.
Bristol City have the opportunity to move to within five points of the league summit with victory this evening. After an inconsistent start to the season, Lauren Smith’s side are beginning to show signs of real progress with victories against top flight side Reading in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup and Sheffield United in the FA Women’s Championship. Virtually a brand new squad has been assembled at The Robins’ High Performance Centre over the summer and they were always going to need time to gel but Bristol City seem to be getting there, although they must now play catch up in their battle to return to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
